Addressing unrest

There are some things that you can do to help manage some of the feelings and behaviours you might be experiencing. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach so sometimes it’s about trying different things until you find something that helps you.

Get Active

  • Go for a walk or a run
  • Move around: jump as high as you can on a trampoline; kick a ball; do some star jumps or run on the spot as fast as you can
  • Stretch or do some yoga

Get Creative

  • Draw and colour: colour a picture; draw your favourite thing or a place where you feel safe
  • Sing aloud or dance to uplifting music
  • Read or get someone to read to you a story you like

Relaxation

  • Spend some time with a pet
  • Take some deep breaths
  • Wrap yourself up in a blanket

Other People

  • Spend time around someone you know and trust
  • Text or call a helpline number (like ChildLine, YoungMinds, SARSAS.)
  • Think about a person who has always been there for you or has really helped you in the past. Keep something with you that reminds you of them, like a photo or small object and think back to them when things feel hard.

There are some more ideas in the SARSAS self-help guides which are available here. There is also an easy-read version and a "Men and Boys" version:
